Year Five

The supportive and caring environment at Sunnybank State School empowers children to develop the confidence to take risks, express themselves and blossom as independent learners. Our primary aim in Year 5 is to develop self-motivated and happy students who are responsible and respectful members of the school and wider community.

Our programs offer interactive experiences in a friendly and stimulating learning environment that encourages children to be fully engaged in their learning. The needs and abilities of the children are considered carefully when developing units of work. Information and communication technologies are integrated within the curriculum.

Literacy activities focus on reading, writing, spelling/phonics, grammar, handwriting and speaking; and includes small group rotational activities. Skills are enhanced through guided reading, reciprocal teaching and independent literacy activities.

Our classes use the Diving into Maths program which follows the guidelines presented by the recently developed Maths Curriculum. Rotational Maths activities are also utilised, allowing time for individual instruction, attention and intervention.
