Music

Music is widely recognized as a powerful educative tool that contributes to the aesthetic development of the individual. At Sunnybank State School, we present opportunity for every child to learn to understand the contribution music makes to his/her life.

The aim of our music program is to develop creativity which is present in varying degrees in all children. It focuses on students making music and developing the ability to think and express themselves in sound.

The music curriculum is implemented in a seamless program from Prep to Year 7 and uses a cumulative, sequential and developmental approach to the teaching and learning of musical skills and concepts. Students in P-7 receive one 30 minute lesson per week of core music. Children are involved in a wide variety of activities from singing games and the playing of instruments to composing and performing. By singing, playing instruments, listening, moving, improvising and composing, students experience satisfaction and enjoyment as they learn.

Students are encouraged to become involved in a broad range of musical experiences beyond the classroom including the choir. Children are required to attend one rehearsal per week during own time.
